a way you could make more $$$ would be if people could buy seperate shoes like the ones they created, instead of having to buy ones from the contest winners... just an idea.

Doing that would be HELLLLLA expensive.
Can't really just buy in bulk. Man do I wish though.... |

thanks sleepy for pointing out the obvious. I sure wish we could print some one offs because I know there have been some great designs that i would love to have rocked as sneakers that didn't make it through the vote process. bummer. just keep submitting Ringo :) |

Im sure this could work. Just charge people extra for one-offs. Like a couple hundred or whatever you need to turn some kind of profit. SB heads pay like 500 plus for custom kicks all the time. I kno some people on this site (not everybody) wouldn't mind shelling out a couple big face hunnids to get their own shoe made up if it doesn't win the contest. How expensive could it get to manufacture one-offs??? Im askin

We've been thinking the same thing about allowing designers to purchase their own individual shoes around the RYZ camp...let's start the dialog within the community...
So what does everyone think? How much would you pay to have your own customized sneaker? How long would you wait for that sneaker to be delivered? The more input we can get, the quicker we can get started - so let us know your views... |

I think that is an excellent idea, though this would solely depend on the rate per shoe which the designer in question would be paying. This is obvious and while I have had a hard time finding a site that will actually let you design your own shoe (as in, you submit the actual pic) RYZ would really have a real market were they to do this.
I would suggest charging (and this is purely in RYZ's interest) a base rate for the shoe and then a discounted price for any pairs following. It is also important to in order to establish an online community maintain the competition for a while before doing this. Considering incentives for those introducing RYZ to others may not be a bad idea as well. I mean really, others asking people to vote on their shoe is really the best way to get people to sign up, no? -Jonathan |

I don't know that i wouldn pay too much to have this done, but it's still a great idea. I have no money to spend on this sort of thing but I know there are people out there with so much money they don't know what to do with it all - so they spend it on things such as clothes, cars and shiny things. Believe me, if you got this out there with some fliers on some college campuses around town there would be many students coughing up college loans to pay for a pair of truly custom kicks. word of mouth would be good too.
Hey! i have an idea... you should give some of the RYZ community members free shoes so we can do the whole "show and tell" thing! I can accept late birthday presents... haha. |

LOL: give peeps a chance to give you REAL feedback (like: how much would you pay to have your own shoes made?) and all you get is blether in return.
People... the question is: how much would you pay to have your own shoes made? Here's a go... I paid $79 at Nike ID. For a FULLY custom kick...? It depends on the quality, but I think I'd by willing to pay 3 to 5c's. I'd be willing to wait 6-8 weeks. |

I have worked in prototype design for apparel. Jeans, shirts, jackets, hoodies etc. The most expensive thing was a single jacket prototype produced for $180. It all depends on the supplier/manufacturers price for non bulk items. Reasonably a 30% increase would be tagged on for profit so I would comfortably pay a little over $200 for my own shoes. Depending on the things I could customize(more then just graphics) I would easily go higher.
Does that make sense? |

Great feedback Alph. Thanks. We want to know if this is a viable business model. Our manufacturing partner would NOT be happy with single items, but if the interest is big enough, we could convince them to work with us on it.
Based on what we have seen from the blogs and people writing in, it is looking like something we will want to try. |
